Journeys and Destinies of Books

What’s your destiny? I used to think mine was to travel the world and physically help people (similar to Red Cross). But as life goes, my path moved, curved, and changed with time.
Having not been a huge reader in high school or college, I never would’ve thought I’d become an author. And I wouldn’t say I was destined to be a writer, or that I’ve always wanted to be one. Yet, here I am. I don’t believe my destiny is to be “big-time successful” as many authors hope to become one day. I honestly don’t feel it’s in my cards. I think that specific hand is held by fate and dealt to whoever fate appoints.

I think each book carries its own destiny, reaching the right reader at the right time. And that is my fate.

Change The World

After writing A Wordy Woman’s Guide for Writing a Book, each time a reader contacts me privately or through an open forum, I feel a sense of accomplishment, like all my hours of labor haven’t been for nothing. And I hope that if a reader wants to write a book one day, that maybe one of my books will help them in their journey, and who knows, maybe they’ll write the next bestseller that changes the world somehow.

By no means will subsequent books of mine be the next best thing, but it will be the next best me. And with every book, as I’m outlining and listening to my muse (as Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert talks about), I put everything I am into it. Therefore, my original destiny was sort of correct: A part of my soul travels across the world, reaching and helping new readers. I simply need to write passionately.

I challenge you to listen to your destiny. What is it? We all have a purpose in life.
