I’ve created a YouTube channel that follows my journey to indie publishing my newest novel, Scythe of Darkness. This channel will be for other writers who are curious about the process. By watching the step-by-step videos, be it something big as marketing and promotion, to the tedious details of interior formatting or picking a genre-specific title, I hope that my journey will help you.
When launch day happens, I’ll share with you whether or not my new marketing strategy increased book sales, especially how it compares to the first time I released a book in 2013.
What is indie publishing?
Self-publishing is the publication of any book or other media by its author without the involvement of an established publisher. A self-published physical book is said to have been privately printed. The author is in control of the entire process including, for a book, the design of the cover and interior, formats, price, distribution, marketing, and public relations. The authors can do it all themselves or may outsource some or all the work to companies which offer these services. - Wiki
How do I know if it's the right path for me?
I’ve been writing books for a while, but most of them stay safely guarded from the world in my drawer. Last year, I finished writing the novel that I’m launching soon. At the time, I wasn’t sure how to improve my book, make it better. It was missing something. Then I gained a critique group—which was essential—and from their advice, I revised my book two more times. I LOVE the final version, more than anything I’ve ever written before.
So instead, I found myself grappling with the notion to trust myself, hire my own team of individuals, and get my book published this year. I emailed a few writing friends for their opinion. This wasn't something I wanted to rush into without proper research and advice.
After more thinking, I decided that the indie route was best for me. Will I take the hybrid route one day? Maybe. I don't know the future. But I'm not waiting for a publishing opportunity to come knocking. I'll create the door myself.
