CreateSpace Expanded Distribution
One of the complicated decisions for me when I chose to publish through CS, was to decide whether or not to choose the Expanded Distribution option. It's free, but it means the price of my book will have to increase. So is it worth it?
In my opinion, the only advantage I see is that my book would be available for libraries to purchase. However, after talking to a librarian, just because my book is available doesn't mean that they will purchase it or even know to search for it. The library in my town finds books numerous ways. One is by attending a Texas Authors Conference, and another is by looking for recommendations in Voya magazine. From there, they purchase books through Baker & Taylor.
If I'm able to get my book reviewed in Voya magazine, or I become heavily involved with the Texas Authors Conference, then at that time, I may choose the Expanded Distribution option. But right now, I'm not. In order for my book to be priced competitively with others in the similar market, I'd like it to remain at $8.99.
ACX is the site where authors can upload a "project" and find a narrator for their book.
I uploaded my project on Monday. I'm not one of those people who wants to sit around and wait for auditions to roll in, so instead I listened to 50+ voice samples on their site and sent a few messages to the narrators that I thought would be a good fit. While doing so, I received an audition the following day after uploading my project. I'm giving myself a week to see what other auditions come in, but I've gotten lucky, because I REALLY like the audition that was sent to me. And it wasn't from somebody that I had messaged.
Why Choosing the Right Excerpt is Important (ACX)
The excerpt that I chose for my project was from Chapter Three of my book. I chose this section, because it contained dialogue from three different characters. This way I can hear what the narrator will sound like when performing their parts. So make sure you take this into consideration when choosing your excerpt.
I also added extra information before the scene began.
During the interview, a key component to increasing your visibility as an author all rotates around one important factor: connecting. An author must connect with other authors, as well as their fan base. How do you build a fan base?
